Tokyo is famous for its bustling nightlife and neon-colored streets; it’s the Asian city that never sleeps, or at least one of the most prominent. But this photographer’s take on Tokyo’s staple nightlife scenes is far from average. Canada-based Liam Wong is a Scottish-born Graphic Design Director at Ubisoft, but he has a serious knack for photography as well. His story began with random Instagram snapshots taken as a way of remembering and preserving his work-related travels. Before his second trip to Tokyo, he purchased a DSLR. One of those Tokyo nights it began to rain, and Liam’s signature style was born. Those familiar with the almost nightmarish neon world of Enter The Void (2009) or the cyberpunk streets of Blade Runner (1982) might notice similarities in style. Liam’s work is a testament to Tokyo’s beautiful nights, and to photography’s power to artistically twist and distort what’s really there for wonderful and thought-provoking effects. Here is a brief sample of Liam’s Tokyo collection titled “T0:KY:00 – The Beauty of Tokyo at Night”. Take a look at his Facebook and his Instagram to connect with him and find even more beautiful photos.
