Cody was born on the western slope of Colorado. In his high school career, Cody was nominated and awarded the Amazing Youth Leadership Award by the HRC for establishing one of the first Gay Straight Alliances which then inspired the creation of several other GSAs on the western slope. Cody’s interest in environmentalism stemmed from that experience as well. Cody now resides in Oregon with his partner and beloved animals. He enjoys hiking, camping, running, climbing, watching movies, writing, reading, walking his dog, driving to the ocean, and hanging out with his friends when possible.
Most people pack a suitcase without giving it much thought. Chargers go with the electronics, spare batteries go wherever there’s room, and the whole thing gets zipped shut and handed over at the check in counter. It feels like the most ordinary habit in the world, the kind of small decision nobody would ever think
Most people who fly regularly think they’ve got the routine down. Shoes on, laptop in the bag, liquids… somewhere. That last part is where things tend to fall apart, because the rules governing what goes in your carry-on have quietly split into old rules, new technology, and a patchwork of exceptions that depend entirely on
There’s a particular kind of quiet that settles over a beach when the waves barely make a sound. No crashing surf, no undertow tugging at your ankles, just a gentle lapping that makes it easy to forget you’re standing at the edge of an entire gulf. That’s the experience waiting along a stretch of Mississippi’s
Every year, thousands of families spend real money planning trips to places that would have cost them nothing, simply because nobody told them about a pass sitting quietly on a government website. It is not hidden exactly, but it is not exactly advertised either, tucked into school newsletters and easy to overlook if your child’s
There’s a particular kind of quiet you notice driving along State Route 706 in southwest Washington, right before the trees part and the mountain fills the entire windshield. It happens fast, almost without warning, and it’s the same moment that has stopped photographers, hikers, and casual travelers in their tracks for well over a century.
There’s a particular moment on the northbound train out of Grand Central when the skyline finally gives way to trees, and the Hudson River starts showing up on one side of the tracks instead of buildings on both. Most riders headed for a certain Putnam County village know exactly when that shift happens, because it’s
There’s a particular smell that hangs over the Blue Ridge foothills every autumn, somewhere between wet leaves and pressed fruit, and it has been part of this landscape for longer than most visitors realize. Long before craft beverage trails and farm-to-table menus became fashionable, families here were already tending trees planted by their great-grandparents, pressing
There’s a particular kind of relief that comes from trading asphalt for granite. While the Central Valley bakes and coastal cities wrestle with muggy air, a narrow band of peaks running through the middle of California quietly offers something different: cool mornings, thin crisp air, and views that stretch for a hundred miles. It’s not
There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over a flower field in July, the buzz of bees layered under birdsong, the air thick enough with scent that you can almost taste it. The Pacific Northwest gets plenty of attention for its coastline and its evergreen forests, but summer here also means something more
There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over you above ten thousand feet, where the air thins and the trees stop looking like trees at all. In California’s White Mountains, gnarled shapes cling to pale dolomite slopes, looking less like living things and more like driftwood that washed up on a mountaintop by
There’s a particular sound backcountry rangers know well: the click of a bite valve toggle, followed by the satisfied gulp of a hiker who hasn’t thought twice about where that water has been sitting. It’s such a small, automatic motion that almost nobody questions it. Yet the people who spend their careers patrolling trails, checking
Airports serve as bustling centers of activity, teeming with travelers striving to navigate from point A to point B with minimal disruptions. While the allure of discovering new destinations is undeniable, it’s no secret that air travel often encounters hiccups. However, there are strategies to save money at the airport and enhance the journey’s smoothness.
